Memory Lapses

Raised blood sugar levels may be to blame for lapses in memory that occur commonly with increasing age. Even in healthy individuals, keeping blood sugar under control could be the key to preventing memory loss. Doing regular physical exercise and eating the right diet are key components to preventing memory loss. Regular exercise lowers blood sugar levels and helps prevent insulin resistance. As cells become insulin resistant, insulin levels rise causing inflammation throughout the body including the brain. A good diet is one that is high in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats or other protein sources and as unprocessed as possible. A high intake of antioxidants (easily obtained from fruits and vegetables) reduces free radical damage and has a protective effect on the brain. Eating a diet that is compatible with your blood type has added advantages as well. Drinking plenty of clean filtered water prevents dehydration and allows all the cells of the body to function more efficiently.
